## Forums & Discussions
Forums are the core of the community. They are organized into categories, each containing multiple forums focused on specific topics.
### Browsing Forums
Visit `/forums` to see all categories and forums. Each forum shows its topic count, reply count, and recent activity. Click any forum to browse its threads. Private forums are marked with a spy icon, so you can tell at a glance which spaces are members-only.
### Course Discussion Forums
If your community runs courses with discussion turned on, each course has its own private forum. Enrolled learners and the teaching team read and post there. Nobody else can see it.
These forums show up in your Forums list under a **Course Forums** heading, but only for the people enrolled in that course. Enroll in a course and its discussion forum appears automatically. Lose access to the course and the forum goes with it.
### Creating a Thread
1. Navigate to the forum where you want to post
2. Click "New Thread"
3. Enter a title (or leave blank for auto-generation from your content)
4. Write your post using Markdown or the formatting toolbar
5. Optionally add tags, a flair, a poll, or schedule for future publication
6. Click "Post Thread"
### Markdown Syntax
Posts support GitHub-flavored Markdown:
- `**bold**` for **bold text**
- `*italic*` for *italic text*
- `[link text](url)` for links
- `` `code` `` for inline code
- Triple backticks for code blocks
- `> quote` for blockquotes
- `- item` for bullet lists
- `@username` to mention someone
### Thread Features

- **Upvote** — upvote the opening post and replies to signal value

- **Thanks** — thank a helpful post (a lighter-weight signal than an upvote)

- **Best Answer** — the thread author can mark a reply as the best answer
