Summary
Every option on the iPhone water, weight, measurements, body fat, vitals, progress photo, cycle, activity and fasting screens, and what Loopa Basic 1.5 includes for each

Part of the Loopa iOS app guide.

The Body Fat screen brings together your body-fat number, how it was worked out, your fat and lean mass, and the trend. It is also where you choose the calculation method. For what each method is and who it was developed on, see Body-fat calculation methods.

General information, not medical advice. Body-fat formulas are estimates, and different methods can give different results from the same measurements.

Getting there
 • The Measurements screen: tap Body fat details and method under the estimate.
 • Trends on iOS: the body-fat card's Body fat details and method.
 • You tab, Explore, Body fat ("Your estimate and how it is worked out").
 • You tab, Preferences, Body fat, Body Fat Calculation, if you can choose a method (see below).

Which plan
The Body Fat screen and the automatic estimate are part of Loopa Premium under Loopa 1.5. Choosing your own method is part of Loopa Premium too. On Loopa Basic the routes into this screen open the Loopa Premium offer. Readings you log or sync stay in your account either way. Every new account starts with 14 days of Loopa Premium; see Your first 14 days.

Your estimate changed
After you change the method, if the switch moved your current number, a card titled Your estimate changed explains it once. Tap Got it to dismiss it. Dismissing it works on every plan. If it fails, a stamp reads "Couldn't dismiss that. Try again."

Your body fat
The top card shows your current body-fat percentage and what kind of number it is:

 • A measured reading (a seal icon) is one you logged, synced from a smart scale, or took from a scan. The line under it reads "Logged" and the date.
 • An estimate (an ƒ icon) is Loopa's, from your measurements. The line reads "From measurements on" and the date, and the tag names the method, such as Navy estimate or RFM estimate.

When your latest number is a measured reading, the current estimate is shown under it as a second line with its own label, so you can compare the two. With neither, the card says "No body-fat number yet".

When Loopa needs something
If the estimate can't be worked out, the card says what is missing, for example "Add a neck measurement...", and gives you a button for each missing piece:

 • Add measurements for a waist, neck or hip measurement. It opens The Measurements screen. Measurements are part of Loopa Premium; on Loopa Basic the button wears a Premium badge and opens the offer.
 • Update health profile for your sex, age or height. It opens Health Settings.
 • Log a weigh-in opens the weight sheet. When it saves, a WEIGHT SAVED stamp confirms it, or the milestone card appears if the weigh-in crossed one.

Calculation method
The Calculation method card says how your number is worked out.

 • On Automatic it names the method used and says "This estimate uses the" method name, then "Loopa uses the U.S. Navy method when your measurements allow, otherwise the next method that can, and labels every estimate with its method."
 • If you chose a method earlier and your Loopa Premium ended, it adds "Your choice," the method name, "is saved and applies again with Loopa Premium."
 • With a method you chose, it shows the method's name, "Chosen" and when, and what the method is.

Below it, Change method opens the method picker (see below). If choosing is not part of your plan, the button reads Choose a method with a Premium badge and opens the Loopa Premium offer.

Measurements used
This card lists each measurement the estimate read, with its value and date, and "Last calculated from measurements on" and the date. If your measurements fall outside the people the formula was developed on, it adds "Your measurements are outside the range of the people this formula was developed on, so read it as a rough guide."

Fat and lean mass
Fat mass and Lean mass are shown in your body-weight unit (kilograms, pounds, or stones and pounds). The caption says what they came from: "Worked out by Loopa from your" measured reading or estimate "and your weigh-in on" the date.

Trend
The Trend chart plots your body fat over time. The Range menu chooses 30 days, 90 days (the default), 6 months or 1 year; on Loopa Basic your history reaches back 30 days.

 • Estimates are solid lines, one per method, each with its own marker: circles, triangles or diamonds.
 • Measured readings are a dashed line with square markers.

The caption under the chart says which method the line uses: "Every estimate here uses the" method "recomputed from that day's own measurements. Days without the measurements it needs are left blank." On Automatic it says the one method used, or that "Automatic used more than one method in this period", naming them, with each method on its own line so you compare points on the same line.

With nothing in the period, the chart reads "Nothing to chart in this period yet." If it can't load: "The trend could not be loaded. Pull down to try again."

The disclaimer
The bottom of the screen carries Loopa's body-fat disclaimer. Pull down anywhere to refresh. The screen also refreshes by itself when you log something elsewhere in the app.

On iPad the screen uses two columns: your number, the method and the measurements on the left, the chart, the masses and the disclaimer on the right.

The method picker
Change method opens Body Fat Calculation. The disclaimer sits at the top. Pull down to refresh.

 • Automatic comes first, with what it does, IN USE when it is your setting, and "Right now:" with your current number and its label. If you chose a method, tap Automatic to go back to it; a stamp reads AUTOMATIC SELECTED.
 • Then one card per method, in Loopa's order: U.S. Navy, Relative Fat Mass and BMI-based. Each shows what it is, what it needs, and SELECTED when it is yours. Under From your measurements it shows what that method would estimate from what you have on file, or why it can't, with the same fix buttons as above.
 • About this method expands to who the formula was developed on, its limits, and its source, which opens in your browser.
 • Tap a card to choose it. It shows Saving briefly, then a stamp such as NAVY SELECTED. VoiceOver announces the method as selected.
 • Methods Loopa does not offer you are listed at the bottom with the reason, for example because of your age.

You can choose a method that can't calculate an estimate yet. The Body Fat screen then shows what to add instead of a number.

If the choice can't be saved, a stamp gives the reason or reads "Couldn't change the method. Try again." If the methods can't be loaded, the picker says "No Methods" and "The calculation methods could not be loaded."

Without Loopa Premium, each method card shows a lock and a Premium badge, and tapping it opens the Loopa Premium offer.
