Credits are earned by taking part and spent on things that are not worth real money. They buy cosmetics, a thread bump, a highlighted post and a tip to somebody who helped you. They buy nothing outside the community and they are not a currency.
Credits are not a subscription and they do not unlock Loopa Premium. Nothing about your health tracking depends on them.
Earning
- Posting a thread, and replying to one.
- Your post being upvoted by somebody else. One vote per person per post.
- Having a reply marked best answer.
- A staff pick.
- Your first post of the day.
- Welcoming a new member by replying to their first thread.
- Reporting something that turns out to need action.
- Completing a course.
- Uploading a file, and accepting a friend.
- Logging in, and setting up two-factor authentication.
Every source has a daily cap. Once you hit a cap on one source that day, more of the same earns nothing. It is not an error and nothing tells you off; the intent is that credits reward taking part rather than reward volume.
Moderators and above earn at a multiplier.
Spending
- Cosmetics: a colored username, a profile border, an avatar frame.
- Changing your username.
- Bumping a thread back to the top.
- Highlighting a post.
- Sponsoring a thread for a number of hours.
- Gifting a download to somebody.
- Tipping a member whose post helped you.
Prices are shown in the app at the moment you spend, because they are set per community and can change.
Tipping
A tip moves credits from you to another member, with an optional message.
There is a minimum, a maximum per tip and a daily maximum, and a small percentage is taken out of circulation rather than delivered. Gifting a download works the same way.
That percentage exists because credits are earned faster than they are spent. Without something removing them, the numbers grow until they mean nothing. See Tipping.
Who cannot earn
- An account that has been shadow-banned.
- An account below member level.
Credits can be taken back
If the thing that earned credits is undone (a post deleted, a vote removed, a report overturned) the credits go with it. It is reversed against the same source rather than deducted from your balance at random, and it is recorded in your history.
