Logging a recipe to a meal

4 min read · 661 words · 1 revision · Updated Oct 24, 2026

Copy to meal puts a recipe in your food diary as one entry, with the full nutrition of the portion you ate. Cook once, log it in a few taps, and log it again tomorrow from the leftovers.

Logging a recipe

Open the recipe and tap Copy to meal.

Choose the meal and the day. Loopa starts on today and the meal for the time of day, and you can pick any meal in your diary on today or an earlier day.

Say how much you ate.

Tap Log it.

The entry is named after the recipe and lands in that meal.

How much you ate

  • Servings. One serving is the starting point. Change it in quarter servings, up to 20.
  • Grams eaten. When the recipe has a cooked weight, you can weigh your plate instead and enter the grams, from 1 g up to 5,000 g. Add the cooked weight on the recipe to turn this on.

The checks before you log

Before the entry is saved, Loopa checks the recipe and shows the results on the same sheet under Before you log.

  • Medications. If you keep medications, supplements or protocol compounds in Loopa, the recipe's ingredients are checked against them using FDA product labeling, and any interaction alert appears here with the label's own words. See Medications and interaction alerts.
  • Low FODMAP. The recipe is checked for the portion you are about to log, and for your current phase if you follow the Low FODMAP protocol. See Checking a meal before you eat.
  • Your never-eat list. If an ingredient matches a food on your never-eat list, the sheet names the ingredient and the food it matched.

Allergens are matched from ingredient names and may be incomplete. If you have a food allergy, check the ingredients and the labels of what you buy yourself.

When an alert is moderate or more serious, or an ingredient is on your never-eat list, Loopa asks you to confirm you have read it before the entry is saved. On iPhone, iPad and Android, logging a recipe needs a connection so these checks can run.

What your diary keeps

The entry carries the recipe's calories, macros and micronutrients for your portion. It keeps those numbers as they were when you logged it. If the recipe is edited, unshared or deleted later, the entry stays exactly as it was.

Tap the entry in your diary to open the recipe again, at the version you logged, for as long as the recipe is still available to you.

Made it

Logging does not mark a recipe as made. Made it is its own button on the recipe, and the count on a recipe is the number of members who marked it made.

Sharing the meal with your family

If you are in a Loopa Family Group, turn on Also share with my family on the sheet (on Android, Share with family) and the meal goes to your group as well. Anyone who has switched off family meal sharing does not receive it. See Sharing a meal with your family.

You can also send a recipe itself with Share to family on the recipe. Each person can log it, and anyone with Loopa Premium can also open it and save it to their own recipes.

Drinks

A recipe tagged as a drink logs to whichever meal you choose, the same as any other recipe.

If your Premium ends

Copy to meal is part of Loopa Premium. Everything you already logged from a recipe stays in your diary, and you can still log food in every other way Loopa Basic offers.
