Logging a workout

Loopa logs training the way you do it: one exercise at a time, set by set. Pick the movement, put in what you lifted, move on. Everything else on this page happens because you did that.

Picking an exercise

Loopa ships with 453 exercises, and each one carries four things:

  • The muscle groups it works
  • The equipment it needs
  • The movement pattern it belongs to (a push, a hinge, a squat and so on)
  • A one-line form cue, the sentence a coach would say to you mid-set

Those four are what make the library searchable rather than just long. You can go looking for a hinge you can do with dumbbells, instead of scrolling until something familiar appears.

If yours is not there

Add it. Give it a name and the same four attributes, and it behaves exactly like the 453 that came with the app: it logs, it sets records, and it counts toward your volume. Nothing about a custom exercise is second class.

Logging a set

Each set takes three numbers:

  • Reps
  • Weight
  • RPE, how hard that set felt

What you did last time is already in the fields. Loopa fills the reps and weight from your previous session with that exercise, as placeholders. Matching last week means typing nothing at all. Beating it means changing one number. You are never scrolling back through a log to remember what the bar had on it.

Set types

A set is marked as what it actually was:

  • Warmup
  • Working
  • Drop
  • Failure
  • AMRAP, as many reps as possible

This matters more than it looks. A warmup single and a top single are the same numbers and completely different facts, and a log that cannot tell them apart will hand you a personal record you did not earn.

Cardio

A run, a row, a ride or a walk goes in with duration and distance, rather than being forced into a sets-and-reps shape that does not describe it. Cardio earns its own kinds of record. See below.

Kilograms or pounds

Pick one in your settings and the whole feature speaks it: entry, records, volume, your program. Nothing asks you to convert in your head between the rack and the app.

Personal records

You never mark a record. Loopa finds it. Six kinds are watched, and any set that beats one is flagged as a record with the kind named:

  • Estimated one-rep max, calculated with the Epley formula
  • Heaviest weight
  • Most reps, compared at that load or heavier. A rep record set with the bar lighter is not the same achievement
  • Most volume in a single set
  • Best pace
  • Longest distance

The last two are the cardio ones. The first four come off the bar.

Warmups never count. Ramping up to a heavy set sets no records on the way, which is the practical reason to mark a warmup as a warmup.

Apple Health and Health Connect

Workouts sync both ways. A session recorded on a watch or in another app arrives in Loopa, and a session you log in Loopa is written back out. Authorize it once.

What this costs

Training is part of Loopa Premium. That is the logger, the exercise library, the exercises you add yourself, personal-record detection, your workout history, routines, programs, the calendar and the analytics.

Two things stay free whatever your plan: deleting a session, because what you wrote is yours and you must be able to take it out even if you stop subscribing, and reporting a comment somebody has left on your training.

Working with a coach costs nothing on top. A coach is somebody you add to a feature you already have, not a second product.
