Medications and surgery: why some are paused and who decides
Some medicines are paused before an operation, and the person who decides is your surgical team. Loopa never supplies a stop date, a restart date, or a dose. What it does is make sure you have the conversation and have their answer written down.
The classes usually discussed
Your team will normally go through these with you. The list is here so you can ask about each rather than remember to.
- Blood thinners and antiplatelet medicines
- Anti-inflammatory painkillers
- Fish oil and other supplements that affect bleeding
- Some diabetes medicines

Why Loopa will not give you a date
Because the right answer depends on things this app cannot see: what else you take, why you take it, what operation you are having, and what your anesthesia team plans. A generic stop date applied to the wrong person is worse than no date at all.
Ask for it in writing. Put it in your calendar. If anything is unclear the week before, ring and ask rather than guessing.
After a bypass, one class does not come back
The published guideline is blunt: "Nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs should be completely avoided after bariatric surgery" (Mechanick JI et al., Obesity, 2013 · doi:10.1002/oby.20461). That covers a lot of ordinary over-the-counter tablets, and it covers combination products people do not always think of as painkillers.
Ask your team what to use instead, and check with a pharmacist before anything new. If you switch the setting on, Loopa keeps this class on your interaction watch list and flags it when you add something.
