Barcode scanning is the fastest way to log packaged food. Point your phone's camera at the barcode on a package, and Loopa looks up the product and logs it as a meal or snack. It works whether or not mobieusAI is turned on.

General wellness tracking, not medical advice.

Where to find it

Open Meal photo from the Nutrition menu. The Scan a food barcode card sits at the top of the page, above the photo estimator.

Three ways to scan

Live camera

Tap Scan a barcode and point your phone's rear camera at the package barcode. Loopa reads it automatically and looks up the product. A guide box and scan line help you line it up. If your browser cannot auto-scan, it asks you to snap a clear, close photo of just the barcode instead.

Enter it manually

Tap Enter it manually and type the number printed under the barcode. Useful when a code is scuffed or your camera cannot get a clean read.

Use your phone

On a desktop, tap Use your phone to get a one-time QR code. Scan the code with your phone camera, point the phone at the barcode, and the product appears on your desktop to log. The code expires shortly and works once.

Logging the result

When a product is found, you see its name, serving size, calories, and protein, carbs, and fat. Then:

  1. Choose Servings (from a half up to three).
  2. Choose the Meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, and more). Loopa pre-picks one for the time of day.
  3. Tap Log it.

Tap Scan another to keep going. Product data comes from Open Food Facts, a community food database.[1]

If a product is not found

Not every package is in the database. When there is no match you can enter a different code or switch to Food search to find the food by name. You can always fall back to typing the macros in by hand. See Logging food.
