Creating a family group

2 min read · 262 words · 4 revisions · 1 view · Updated Sep 5, 2026

What you need

An active Loopa Premium subscription. You become the group's organizer.

Steps

  1. Go to You > Preferences > Family Group.
  2. Tap Create a family group.
  3. Tap Invite someone. Type one email address, or create a link you can send yourself.

You will see the message before it is sent. Invitations go one person at a time. We never read your contacts and there is no "invite everyone" button.

The six-person limit

A group holds six people including you, so you can invite five. Pending invitations count against that limit until they are accepted, declined, revoked, or expire after seven days. If you have invited five people and none have replied, the group is full until something changes. Revoke an invitation from the Family Group screen to free the seat immediately.

If your Premium comes from Apple Family Sharing

You can still create a group, and it will share the pantry, but it will not pass Premium on to your members. An entitlement Apple shares with you is Apple's to share, not ours to share again. Your app says so plainly on the Family Group screen.

If you later buy your own Loopa subscription, your members are covered automatically. You do not need to recreate the group or re-invite anybody.

Being the organizer

You can invite people, revoke invitations, remove members, and dissolve the group. You cannot see any member's diary, and there is no setting that changes that.

There is no way to transfer the organizer role yet. To hand a group over, dissolve it and have the new organizer create one.
