Health Info & Sources

3 min read · 533 words · 1 revision · Updated Oct 25, 2026

Part of the Loopa iOS app guide.

Health Info & Sources lists where Loopa's numbers come from: the equations behind your calorie and protein targets, the guidance behind your macros, and the food and supplement databases. It is part of Loopa Basic and Loopa Premium.

Where to find it

  • Health tab › My Loopa › Health Info & Sources. You can also search the Health tab for it.
  • You tab › About › Health Info & Sources.
  • Any Sources button (an ⓘ, read by VoiceOver as "Sources and medical disclaimer"). It sits beside your targets on Today's Page, in Health Settings and on the plan you see at the end of setup, on the Weekly report (the summary, Energy Balance and Macros cards), in the What-If simulator, and at the foot of Loopa AI Coach. A Sources button opens the same list as a sheet titled Sources; tap Done to close it.

Not Medical Advice

The list opens under Not Medical Advice: "Your targets (calories, BMR/TDEE, protein, carbs and fat) are estimates from published equations and public-health guidance. They're a starting point, not a prescription, and they're general wellness information, not medical advice. Talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian before making changes, especially if you have a medical condition, are pregnant or nursing, or take medication."

The references

Calorie target (BMR)

  • Resting energy · Mifflin-St Jeor equation: Mifflin MD, St Jeor ST, Hill LA, et al. Am J Clin Nutr. 1990;51(2):241–247.

Daily burn (TDEE)

  • Activity multipliers · physical activity level (PAL): FAO/WHO/UNU, Human Energy Requirements, 2001.

Protein

  • Daily minimum (RDA): Institute of Medicine (National Academies), Dietary Reference Intakes, 0.8 g per kg of body weight.
  • Higher protein for fat loss & training: Jäger R, Kerksick CM, Campbell BI, et al. International Society of Sports Nutrition Position Stand: protein and exercise. J Int Soc Sports Nutr. 2017;14:20.

Carbs, fat & overall diet

  • Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2020–2025: U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 9th edition.

INR target range

  • Your band is set by your clinician: Loopa only records the INR range your prescribing clinician set. It never chooses one for you. Background from MedlinePlus (NIH), Prothrombin Time Test and INR (PT/INR).

Food & nutrition database

  • USDA FoodData Central: Foundation, SR Legacy, Branded and FNDDS data, including restaurant and fast-food items. Public domain.
  • Open Food Facts: food and barcode data, including the ingredient lists Loopa reads when you scan a packet. Used under the Open Database License.
  • Powered by fatsecret Platform API: branded, restaurant and menu items, which is where most chain-restaurant and supermarket products in Loopa come from. Used under licence.
  • Loopa’s own catalogue: a hand-kept set of corrections and additions, plus every food you save yourself. Loopa's corrections outrank the source database, so a fix stays fixed after the next update.

Supplement labels

  • NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD): supplement products and their Supplement Facts panels, shown as printed on the label. Public domain.
