Lab results is where you keep the numbers from your blood tests and scans, and watch them over time. You type them in from your report, or on iPhone bring them in from Apple Health.
Loopa keeps what you entered and says nothing about it. There are no reference ranges, no green or red, and nothing marked high, low or normal. A range belongs to the laboratory that ran the test and to the clinician reading it. Questions about your results belong with your prescriber.
Lab results are part of Loopa Premium, like the rest of Medication protocols. Every new account starts with 14 days of full Premium, and nothing you recorded is deleted when Premium ends.
Getting there
- Health tab › The Log › Protocols, then Lab results at the bottom of the hub.
- Or a protocol's Dashboard, then Lab results in the links at the bottom.
The screen is titled Lab results. The + at the top (read aloud as "Add a result") adds one.
Remind me about labs
The first card is a switch, Remind me about labs: "A nudge when it has been a while since your last panel. It never says which tests to ask for." When it is on, Every N days sets how often, from 7 to 365 days in steps of 7, starting at 90.
The switch sets the Lab reminder on every protocol you have switched on, so you get one reminder rather than one per protocol. It cannot be used until at least one protocol is on.
You can set the same reminder from a protocol's Settings, under Reminders. If you use the switch here, open that Reminders card afterwards and check Reorder reminder is still the way you want it. See Setting up a protocol.
Read lab results from Apple Health (iPhone)
The card Read lab results from Apple Health says: "If your clinic sends results to Apple Health, Loopa can read the markers in its list. It shows you what it found and adds nothing until you say so." Tap Look in Apple Health.
The sheet From Apple Health shows "Looking in Apple Health…" while it reads, then lists the results it recognised: "Tick what you want in your Loopa log. Nothing is added until you tap the button."
- Nothing is ticked to begin with. Tick each result you want.
- A result you already logged is listed but left unticked, so you do not add it twice.
- The button reads Add 1 result or Add N results. When it finishes the app shows N RESULTS ADDED.
Loopa reads only these markers from Apple Health: total and free testosterone, SHBG, estradiol, progesterone, FSH, LH, prolactin, TSH, hematocrit, hemoglobin, PSA, HbA1c, fasting glucose, total, LDL and HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, ALT, AST, creatinine and vitamin D. Nothing is ever written back to Apple Health.
If there is nothing it recognises you see Nothing to bring in. If iOS does not let Loopa read your health records you see "Loopa couldn't read your health records. You can add results by hand instead." If only some go in, "Some results couldn't be added."
Results that came in this way say from Apple Health beside their date.
Over time
The Over time card has a chip for each marker you have recorded. The first one is selected when you open the screen; tap another to switch. The chart shows each value on its date, and VoiceOver reads it as the marker, the latest value and how many results it is drawn from. A marker with no entries says "Nothing recorded for that marker yet."
Loopa converts nothing. If you entered one marker in two different units, the chart says so rather than reconciling them.
Your results
Below the chart is every result, newest first: the marker, the value and unit, the date (and from Apple Health where it applies), your note and any question you wrote.
Deleting a result. Touch and hold it, then tap Delete this result. It goes straight away, with no confirmation.
Empty. Before your first result the screen says No results yet: "Add what your panel said and Loopa keeps the series. It shows your numbers as you entered them and never says what they should be." Tap Add a result.
Adding a result or a whole panel
The sheet is titled Add a result.
Marker. Pick one:
- Total testosterone, Free testosterone, SHBG, Estradiol, Progesterone, FSH, LH
- Hematocrit, Hemoglobin, PSA, Prolactin, TSH
- HbA1c, Fasting glucose
- Total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, Triglycerides
- ALT, AST, Creatinine, Vitamin D (25-OH)
- Other (name it in the note)
DEXA. A second group for a body-composition scan: DEXA lean mass, DEXA fat mass, Bone mineral density and Bone density T-score: "From a scan report, as printed. Lean and fat mass draw on the body chart; density and the T-score are listed as entered." See DEXA scans and body composition.
Then:
- Panel date. The date on the report. It cannot be in the future.
- Value. The number as printed. A T-score takes a minus sign (placeholder e.g. −1.2).
- Unit. Free text. Choosing a marker fills in its usual unit, and the chips under Units this marker is usually reported in let you switch to another with one tap.
- Note, in your own words.
- For your appointment, an optional question for your prescriber, up to 300 characters. It goes on the first page of your appointment summary.
A whole panel from one blood draw. Tap Add another marker from this draw. The marker you just filled in moves to an In this panel list ("All of these are recorded against one date.") and the form is ready for the next one. Each marker can be in a panel once. Remove one from the list with its minus button. The save button changes from Save result to Save panel (N). Saving shows SAVED for one result or N RESULTS ADDED for a panel.
The sheet ends with: "Loopa records what your report says, exactly as you enter it. It never says what a number should be. Your own result carries what applies to you."
On Android and the web
The Android app has the same Lab results screen, panel builder and reminder switch. It does not read results from Health Connect, so every result is typed in. In a browser the Protocols pages are read-only, so results are added in the app.
