Setting up a protocol

9 min read · 1,800 words · 1 revision · Updated Oct 25, 2026

A protocol's Settings screen is where you switch it on, say what you take and how often, and choose which reminders you get. This page walks through every control on it, in the order the iPhone app shows them.

Loopa does not give medication advice. Everything you enter here is your own record of what your prescriber told you. Nothing is suggested, checked against a dosing reference or filled in for you. Questions about your medication belong with your prescriber.

Protocols are part of Loopa Premium. Every new account starts with 14 days of full Premium. On Loopa Basic the Protocols screen shows what Premium includes in place of your protocols. Nothing you recorded is deleted when Premium ends: it is all there when you subscribe, and it is in your data download on any plan.

Getting there

  • Health tab › The Log › Protocols, or You tab › Explore › Protocols.
  • Each protocol has a card: GLP-1, Testosterone therapy, Hormone therapy and Peptide protocol. You can run more than one.
  • On a card that is off, tap Set this up. On a card that is on, tap Settings. The protocol's dashboard also has a Settings link at the bottom.

The card's own switch turns the protocol on or off from the hub without opening Settings. While it saves you see a spinner. If the save fails the card says "Couldn't save that. Try again."

Once a protocol is on, its card reads "On. Add what you take to see next doses and a record." until you add an entry, then "On · 1 entry" or "On · N entries".

The protocol switch

The first card on Settings is the switch, labelled with the protocol's name and support (for example GLP-1 support): "Loopa adjusts what it asks of you, and keeps a record you can take to your appointments." It is the same switch as the one on the hub card.

Turning a protocol off keeps everything you recorded for it. Turning it back on brings it all back.

GLP-1: what you are on

A GLP-1 protocol has its own card, What you are on, above the entry list:

  • Medication. Free text, placeholder Whatever it says on the box. There is no list behind it and no autocomplete. It saves when you leave the field or press Return.
  • Form. Injection or Oral. Tap the chosen one again to clear it.
  • Dose day. One day, Mon to Sun. Tap the chosen day again to clear it.
  • Started. A Start date picker, which cannot be later than today. Clear the start date removes it.

What you take

The What you take card lists your entries. Tap Add (the plus, read aloud as "Add an entry") to add one.

  • GLP-1 holds one entry. Once it has one, the Add button goes away.
  • Testosterone therapy, hormone therapy and peptide protocols hold as many as you take.

With nothing added the card says: "Nothing added yet. What you type here is your own label. Loopa keeps no list of medications and checks it against nothing."

Each entry shows its name and a line with its schedule and route, for example Once a week on Monday · Intramuscular. Tap the entry to edit it.

"Not checked for interactions. Tap to name the medicine." appears under an entry whose name Loopa could not match to a medicine in its FDA labeling list. That entry is outside your interaction alerts until you edit the name to one that matches. An entry that does match is part of your medication list too: see One medication list.

Supply. The box icon at the right of each entry (read aloud as "Supply for" and the name) opens that entry's supply and refill runway.

Removing an entry. Touch and hold the entry, then tap Remove this entry. It is removed straight away, with no confirmation, and the app shows REMOVED. The doses you logged against it stay in your record. The iPhone app has no way to bring a removed entry back, so add it again if you need it.

Adding or editing an entry

The sheet is titled Add an entry or Edit entry, with Cancel at the top and Add entry or Save changes at the bottom.

  • Name. Placeholder Your own label for it. Required. Leave it empty and the sheet says: "Give this entry a name. It is your own label, and nothing is checked against a list."
  • How it is taken. One choice. The first option is selected for you on a new entry:
Protocol Choices
GLP-1 Subcutaneous, Oral
Testosterone therapy Intramuscular, Subcutaneous, Gel, Patch, Pellet, Oral
Hormone therapy Intramuscular, Subcutaneous, Patch, Gel, Oral, Pellet, Ring, Other
Peptide protocol Subcutaneous, Intramuscular, Oral, Nasal, Other
  • Amount. Placeholder As you record it. Free text, written the way you write it. It is filled in for you each time you log a dose, and you can change it on the dose.
  • Note. Placeholder Anything worth remembering.
  • How often. One of Every day, Every other day, Twice a week, Once a week (selected on a new entry), Every two weeks, Every N days, N days on, M days off, Chosen days or As needed.
  • Which days (Once a week, Twice a week and Chosen days). Seven day buttons, Monday selected on a new entry. Once a week takes exactly one day ("Once a week means one day. Pick one."), Twice a week exactly two ("Twice a week means two days. Pick two."), and Chosen days at least one ("Pick at least one day.").
  • Every N days. A stepper from 1 to 60, starting at 3.
  • N days on and N days off (for N days on, M days off). On runs from 1 to 90 days, starting at 5. Off runs from 0 to 90, starting at 2. The dashboard then shows Where you are in the cycle: the day you are on, and whether it is an On or Off day.
  • Counting from (Every other day, Every two weeks, Every N days and N days on, M days off). The date the schedule counts from.
  • Time of day. One time, 08:00 on a new entry. Not shown for As needed.
  • Remind me. Three switches: The day before, An hour before and On the day. On a new entry On the day is on and the other two are off. "A reminder says a dose is due. It never says how much, and tapping Complete only records that you took it."

A dose reminder names the protocol and the reminder tier, never what you take, because a lock screen is read by whoever is looking at it. The notification has two actions: Complete records the dose (it shows in Dose history as logged from a reminder) and Snooze reminds you again later.

Training focus (peptide protocols)

A peptide protocol has a Training focus row: Strength, Recovery, Body composition or General. Tap the chosen one again to clear it. It is the only thing about a peptide protocol that changes what the training side of the app offers. Peptide protocols have no protein target.

Libido (testosterone therapy)

A testosterone therapy protocol has the switch Add libido to the daily check-in: "Off unless you ask for it, and never shared with a coach even when you record it." It starts off. See The symptom journal and daily check-in.

Protein target

GLP-1, testosterone therapy and hormone therapy show Protein target with a slider in grams per kilogram of body weight, and the caption "Between 1.2 and 6.0".

Protocol Starts at
GLP-1 1.6 g/kg
Testosterone therapy 1.8 g/kg
Hormone therapy 1.4 g/kg

The slider moves in steps of 0.1 and saves a moment after you let go. Why each protocol starts where it does, with the sources, is on Medication protocols, Testosterone therapy in Loopa and Hormone therapy in Loopa. Loopa does not suggest a value inside the range.

Reminders

The Reminders card holds the protocol's optional nudges. Each is a switch with a line under it:

  • Hydration reminder. "A nudge to drink something." GLP-1 only.
  • Fiber reminder. "A nudge about fiber in the day's food." GLP-1 only.
  • Daily check-in reminder. "A nudge to answer the daily check-in."
  • Lab reminder. "A nudge that it has been a while since your last panel." When it is on, a stepper sets Every N days, from 7 to 365 in steps of 7, starting at 90.
  • Supply reminder. "A nudge when what you have on hand is running down."
  • Prep-day nudge. "The evening before a dose day on your calendar: fluids, easy protein-forward meals, no new PR attempts. Switches on once your pattern is ready." Until your pattern has three complete dose cycles, switching it on is refused and the line under it says how many you have so far ("You have N of 3 so far."). Tapping the notification opens Your week.
  • Short-session offer. "A notification on this phone when today's plan offers a short session. Off unless you ask for it; nothing about it leaves the phone." This one is stored on your iPhone only. See Micro-workouts.
  • Reorder reminder. "Fires on the reorder-by date, your run-out less your pharmacy's lead time. On unless you turn it off." Tapping the notification opens that entry's supply screen.

Every reminder except Reorder reminder starts off. The app does not ask you for times for these nudges; Loopa sends them at its usual times.

What changes when this is on

The What changes when this is on card lists each goal the protocol changes elsewhere in Loopa, such as your protein figure or a calorie floor, with Where this comes from under it. Tap a source to open it. The card refreshes after every save.

Sharing with your coach

If you have a Loopa coach, Settings for a GLP-1, testosterone therapy or hormone therapy protocol shows Sharing with and your coach's name, with a switch, a They can see list and a They cannot see list. The app shows SHARING ON or SHARING OFF when you change it. A peptide protocol shows a note in place of the switch: there is nothing to share. The full lists are on Sharing your protocol with a coach.

On Android and the web

The Android app has the same Settings screen and the same controls. Its short-session switch is labelled Short-session offers as a notification and, like the iPhone's, is stored on the phone and off until you turn it on. In a browser the Protocols pages are read-only: settings, entries and supply are changed in the app.
