Part of the Loopa iOS app guide.

Reactions are how you respond to a post or a message with an emoji instead of a full reply. They appear on feed cards, on the posts inside a forum thread, and on direct messages. This page explains the picker, holding several reactions, and the who-reacted view. For where reactions show up, see The Feed, Forums on iOS, and Messages; for the app overall, see Using the iOS app.

The React control

On a post you'll see a small control that reads React with a face icon. Once you've reacted it changes to Reacted and shows the emoji you chose (your most prominent one, if you hold more than one).

  • Tap the control to open the reaction picker.
  • Long-press it to open the same picker, kept as a shortcut.

A light tap of haptic feedback fires when you open the picker by tapping, and a firmer one on a long-press.

The quick bar and the full set

The picker opens as a small floating quick bar of six reactions, in order: 👍 thumbs-up, ❤️ heart, 😂 laugh, 😮 wow, 😢 sad, and 😡 angry. The emoji spring in, and any reaction you already hold is ringed. Pressing an emoji pops it larger for a moment before it registers.

At the end of the quick bar is a + button. Tap it and the bar expands in place to the full set of built-in reactions: 👍 👎 ❤️ 😍 😂 😢 😭 😮 😡 🔥 🤯 👏 🎉 🚀 🎯 💪 💯 🏆 🐐 🙌 🙏 🤔 👀 😎.

Pick any emoji to apply it. Your choice takes effect immediately, with a haptic tap.

Holding several reactions

Reactions on posts are per-emoji toggles, so you can hold more than one at the same time. You might drop a 🔥 and a 💪 on the same post. Tapping a reaction you already hold removes it. Your reactions apply the moment you tap; the count then settles against the server, and if something goes wrong it rolls back.

The cluster and counts

When a post has reactions, a compact cluster sits beside the React control: up to three distinct emoji overlapped, followed by the total count. If any of the reactions are yours, the count is tinted to match. The cluster updates with a little spring as counts change.

Seeing who reacted

Tap the cluster to open the Reactions sheet (it slides up to a medium height and can be dragged taller). It groups reactors by emoji, each section showing the emoji, its name, the count, and the list of people with their avatars and names. Long lists are capped at the first 50 per emoji, with an "and N more" line beneath. Your own reaction is marked "You reacted," and each group you're part of has a Remove button so you can take a reaction back from here. If the member list can't be fetched, the sheet still shows the grouped counts.

Reactions on messages

Direct messages react a little differently. Long-press a message bubble and choose Add reaction to open the same quick bar (with the "+" to expand). Messages accept any single emoji, so the whole set is offered. The reactions you and the other person add show as small chips beneath the bubble, each a capsule with the emoji and its count, with your own highlighted. Tap a chip to toggle that emoji; long-press the chips to open the who-reacted sheet. See Messages for the rest of the conversation view.
