Sharing recipes with the community

5 min read · 948 words · 1 revision · Updated Oct 24, 2026

Share to community puts a recipe you created into the Loopa recipe library, where other Loopa Premium members can find it in Discover, save it, rate it, cook it and copy it. Every recipe is private until you share it, and you can take it back whenever you like.

Sharing a recipe

Open one of your recipes and tap Share to community.

The first time you share, and again whenever the Community Guidelines change, read the guidelines and tap I accept the guidelines.

Loopa checks the recipe. When it passes, it appears in Discover straight away and your recipe says Shared.

A recipe the check wants a person to look at shows Under review until a moderator has looked at it.

What can be shared

You can share a recipe you typed, pasted or photographed, and a copy you made and changed. A few kinds cannot be shared, and the share button says why:

  • Imported from a link. Imported recipes stay private, and so does any copy of one, so the original author's work stays theirs.
  • A draft. Finish and save it first.
  • A deleted recipe. Restore it from Recently deleted first.
  • A recipe a moderator removed cannot be shared again as it is.

You can share up to 20 recipes a day.

The guidelines for recipes

Shared recipes follow the Loopa Community Guidelines, which have a section for recipes. In short:

  • Share recipes you wrote or adapted yourself. Not a recipe copied from a website or a cookbook.
  • No health claims. A recipe can be high in protein, low in sodium or ready in twenty minutes. It cannot claim to cure, treat, detox, reverse or prevent anything, or promise weight loss.
  • No links, contact details or promotion in the name, the description or the steps.
  • The photo shows the food. Not a person, a screenshot or a logo.
  • List what you actually use. Loopa works out the nutrition from your ingredients, and leaving out a common allergen, or tagging a recipe for a diet it does not fit, can hurt somebody.
  • Nothing that promotes disordered eating, including recipes built around extreme restriction.

How a shared recipe is checked

Every recipe is checked when you share it, and every edit to a shared recipe is checked again. The check reads the name, the description, the steps, the tags, the ingredients and the photo.

  • It passes: the recipe, or your edit, is live in Discover.
  • It needs a person: the recipe waits for a moderator. If it was an edit, the version that was already shared stays up, and your recipe says Shared. Your latest changes are under review.

If a moderator does not approve a recipe, or removes one later, Loopa tells you in your notifications, and the moderator's reason shows on the recipe.

Changing a shared recipe

Edit it as you would any recipe. Members who saved it see the newest shared version, with a Recipe updated badge until they open it. Meals anybody already logged from it keep the numbers they logged.

Taking a recipe back

Tap Withdraw on a shared recipe to make it private again. It leaves Discover and other people's Saved lists, where it shows as No longer available. Nothing in anybody's diary changes. Withdrawing is always available, on any plan.

Reporting a recipe

Every shared recipe has Report recipe. Choose the closest reason: spam or advertising, offensive, unsafe health claim, inaccurate nutrition, copyright, or something else, and add a note if it helps. Our team reviews reports, and the author is never told who reported their recipe.

When three different members report the same recipe, it comes out of Discover until a moderator has reviewed it. You cannot report your own recipe.

Hiding an author, or blocking a member

  • Hide this author's recipes takes their recipes out of your Discover, your Saved list and your collections, and drops any recipe they send you through a family share. It does not affect messages, friends or the forums, and they are not told. You can see and undo it under Hidden authors on the Recipes home.
  • Block member is the full block from the rest of Loopa, and it hides their recipes too. See Muting and blocking.

Ratings, saves and Made it

Members can save your recipe, rate it from one to five stars, and mark it Made it. You see the totals on your recipe. You cannot rate or save your own.

If you delete your account

Recipes you shared with the community stay in the library without your name, shown as by Loopa Community, so the members who saved or cooked them keep them. Your private recipes, saves, ratings, collections and grocery list are deleted. See Deleting your account.

Your rights in a shared recipe

A recipe you create is yours. When you share one, you give Loopa permission to show it in the recipe library, including the adjustments Loopa makes when somebody scales it or reads it in their own units. That permission continues for a shared recipe after you delete your account, which is how it stays in the library. The details are in the Loopa Terms of Service.

Sharing with your family instead

To send a recipe to your Loopa Family Group without sharing it with everybody, use Share to family on the recipe. A private recipe stays private: the people you send it to can save their own copy. See Turning family meal sharing on or off.
